Merely reporting on the trial nearly caused the defendants to walk free?

Either there's more to the story than what I've been able to find in media reports about it, or England's more fucked up than I can imagine, or you're badly misinfomed, or you're being deliberately dishonest.

Feel free to clarify why live-streaming an adult criminal proceeding can cause the defendant to walk free in the U.K., I'm curious.
