Relationships between MAPs and children happen regardless of whether or not they are legal. Occasionally there is heartbreak - often not for the reason you assume. The current legal status of relationships basically ensures, though, that hearts are broken by ignorant parties completely unnecessarily.

But let's take your imagined scenario, which involves an exclusive pedo (about 7% of MAPs) becoming heavily emotionally involved and then withdrawing simply because the significant other stopped being sexually appealing. So, we agree that guy is pretty much a dick.

Your... confusion stems from reaching that conclusion and then transitioning to a discussion about the overall "ups and downs" of a whole CULTURE with that conclusion still intact, pointing out your cherry picked cast as though it were somehow innately tied to the concept of pedophilia. You could just recognize that guy's a dick and his being attracted to minors has nothing to do with his personality. Then, without preconceptions getting in the way of discovery, you might end up drawing the much straiter conclusion that maybe no one's talking about that thing you worry about because it doesn't happen with enough frequency to make it a thing worth talking about.
