What I thought we were talking about was whether the media was part of a conspiracy to lie to us. They weren't.

And I'm not saying they were. They were clearly just repeating what the US government and a few allies were saying. Possibly a failure to double check, but not the making of a lie. The lie had been made before.

What is true and what people believe to be true are different.

Is the Earth flat?

There was a difference of opinion on whether Iraqi WMD was true or not, when people did not have all the evidence.

Except that we did.

Ever since the end of the 1991 war, international inspections had been conducted in Iraq as part of the sanctions programs. Time after time they found that the original weapons had been destroyed and the production sites weren't operational anymore. Reports were very well diffused for over ten years, and new inspections and more details were released again in the run up to the new war.

Meanwhile, the governments of Amerika, Airstrip One, and allies, with a record of lying even before this point, had this super secret intelligence that said otherwise, but which they couldn't show, and asked us to believe in it by faith. Useful idiots all over the world bought that.


So, is the answer to "is the Earth flat?" just a matter of opinion?
Of lack of evidence?
