Naturally current norms are better on that particular issue - the question is which system is better overall.

Against that we have not just a single norm, but the modern norm in which men and children are to be separated, children are to be prevented from having independent thoughts or learning how to be adults, and love is to be denounced as abusive.

So, on balance, which system is worse?

I don't know. They're both awful.
