Wet et al. (2018): ‘I’m in love with an older man’: reasons for intergenerational sexual relationships among young women in South Africa. Culture, Health & Sexuality, published online 22-Oct-2018.

"Data for the study came from the Fourth South African National HIV, Behaviour and Health Survey 2012. A representative sample of 620 young women (15–24 years old) with older male sexual partners was extracted. A multiple logistic regression analysis was conducted to adjust for potential confounders. The authors found that more than a quarter of sexually active young women engaged in age-disparate relationships."

"Main reason for the older partner of 15- to 24-year old women from South Africa who currently had a sexual partner at least 11 years older than themselves:"

Age of consent to sex in South Africa is 16. 15 year olds can only have sex with people up to 2 years older. Therefore all 15 years olds included in the set are victims of paedophiles. And the survey only asks about 15 year olds who had sex with at least 26 year olds - while a 17 year old can be a paedophile for sex with 15 year old depending on months of age difference.

More than a quarter of all sexually active young women had "age-disparate relationships", meaning at least 11 years - not counting the cases where the difference was under 11 years, but significant.

"Women who were 20–24 years old (AOR 1.16, CI: 0.59287–1.87493), divorced, separated or widowed (AOR 1.38, CI: 0.65360–1.92105) and who were students or learners (AOR 1.85, CI: 0.41943–1.29402) were more likely to have an older partner for financial reasons."

So it means that for the age group 15-19, expressed financial reasons for teleiophilia are even rarer than the already rare 11 % for the whole 15-24 range.

How should teleiophiles be humoured and provided for?
