What I see when I read into people's squeamishness about the Jacob Blacks of the world is "THIS CONTRADICTS MY BELIEFS - SHUTTING DOWN RATIONAL THOUGHT - OVERRIDING COMPASSION WITH PROJECTION".

What those people fail to notice is that the person onto whom they're projecting all their well-meaning but ultimately egocentric concerns is steamrolled easily even when matters of gravity directly concern them, because of the nature of the beliefs.

I think that's a psychologically violent force.

What if Bella Swan ultimately decided to be like, "HELL NAH, YOU AIN'T IMPRINTING ON MUH BABY GIRL, GO GET A LIFE YOU TWISTED FUCK."

It's a natural protective instinct - something good - perverted by brainwashing that kicks it into an overdrive that is in no way good and in no way reasonable; backed up by perceived mob power and that absolute "I'm the parent so whatever I say is right, end of story" mentality that EVERYBODY hates until they're old enough to be the one who "knows better".
