It's not like me.
And I don't have an unhealthy view of intelligence. I'm not proud of having a high IQ. I'm proud of my art that I worked hard to create, and skills that I worked hard to hone... so on. I'm about as proud of my brain as I am of my left nostril. But, it's difficult to keep a level head occasionally when thinking about how less smart people hurt you or others with actions that you can see are wrong, but they can't. Interestingly, it's not the actual difference in capacity that triggers my break in composure: it's their refusal to try. "I'm a whole lot better at reaching the right conclusions than you!" is just a frustrated response to seeing, over and over: "ad populum, so STFU - btw, ad hom" - as a very deliberate method of willful ignorance. I wouldn't expect someone to take a statement like that seriously... and I certainly have never made a statement like that to anyone IRL (and never would, as far as I know). ~ RBL |
