Hi sans,
Your criticisms are reasonable. A lot of my research has been with forensic samples, men who have been convicted of sexual offences. I continue to do this work to some extent, though my focus is shifting to general sex research. And forensic research does treat all sexual contact with children as sexual abuse. There are drawbacks in this kind of approach, especially from some of the perspectives here on GC and elsewhere. To the extent that people here see this approach as stigmatizing adult-child sexual contact, I would be guilty of this. However, my approach to and understanding of pedophilia and minor attraction is not totalized by the forensic perspective. General human sexuality and developmental perspectives are generally those that I view minor attraction through; though in the past, I may have been influenced by a forensic perspective more than recently. And more generally, humanism and compassion run through most of what I do, which I *hope* makes me a better researcher. Here are some recent-ish blog posts I've done that might be of interest (wordpress likely tracks IP addresses and uses JavaScript): https://nextgenforensic.wordpress.com/2016/06/12/disclosing-a-sexual-interest-in-children-to-others-the-experience-of-a-non-offending-pedophile/ https://nextgenforensic.wordpress.com/2016/01/10/stigma-and-non-offending-pedophiles/ And then one from my colleagues that might interest: https://nextgenforensic.wordpress.com/2017/03/26/challenging-societal-negativity-towards-paedophiles/ Ian. |
