When I was coming to terms with it, the only people who wanted sex with kids were kidnappers and murderers, That's what I got to see on the telly anyway. There was no internets yet.

I think the extreme stigma is successful in putting many people in denial of their own feelings, in part because it would be too fearful a thing to come to terms with. In a way, this can even be more dangerous. Who knows what might happen if you found yourself snuggling with a child and had both the desire and opportunity to pursue it without knowing anything about yourself, the love, or the consequences. It takes a strong mind to face something like this, and a strong desire to get to what we each believe to be the truth.

Many people just can't venture into it. Denial is what feels safest. Just doesn't seem like it would be very healthy to live life in denial.
