On Saturday, I spent my afternoon at a small town celebration a short distance from where I live.

The weather was nice (mid 80's) and the young girls were plentiful! It was rare treat to be able to observe so many LGs in the "wild" (so to speak) joyously frolicking in the sunshine.

This was a community event for children, and local families arrived in throngs. I was utterly amazed at the ease with which parents allowed their young daughters to wander freely about on their own without worry or fear. And such wild and spirited creatures they were! Their spontaneous expressions of joy were absolutely infectious.

I was more than content to observe them from the safe comfort of a shaded bench. The best part of it all was that no one seemed to be alarmed at my presence. I imagine that this is because this particular community is considered to be a very safe haven for families.

My appreciation for the innocent beauty, joy, and fearlessness of LGs only grows deeper at events like this. If only all adults could see what I see! What a better world it would be for all young girls and women!

I have so many pleasurable memories from that day, enough to last me for months. And the festival season is just beginning!
