Whenever I hear someone saying they will spank a child I threaten them with spanking using the demeaning language commonly used by most adults against children. "If I hear you advocate for spanking one more time I'm going to take you over my knee and give you a sore bottom." It elicits a shocked response from most adults as it dawns on them that this is not an appropriate way to speak, let alone act, toward another person.
