Naturally, my bringing it up was going to mean to some people that I valued it personally, but I was thinking of many people who seek help from religious traditions, just as others would seek help from mental health or social workers if they felt safe doing so. The Catholic rite actually has a long history where back in the day kings tried to force them to tell all the secrets they were hearing for the sake of keeping their own throne. I just thought it was amusing some politician felt they could get such a bill passed, and specifically just for that, and not, say, admission to murder. It just shows how clueless and shameless they are in trying to ride something emotionally triggering for political points that could never pass muster in legal or historical precedent.

Then again, we're in a time where in many parts of society how something feels must be honored more than reason, and accusation is as good as guilt.
