it actually left me shook.
so i was in a deep sleep around 7 am. i only remember the final moments of the dream i was having, during which i became lucid while still in a dream state. there was a black lady whom i know in real life standing across the way. we made eye contact - our gazes locked - and suddenly i was aware that i was in a dream, conscious but not sure what to do or say. although my eyes were shut, i felt an awareness of my surroundings - the comforter over my body, the mattress beneath, my niece's stuffies clasped against my chest - as though i was seeing it all. i wondered, could this be approximately how it feels to be blind? and yet, i was simultaneously fully aware of my dreamscape. a light blue room, an elegant mirror, fog everywhere but somehow not obstructing my view. and the lady, gazing into my soul. i felt stretched, as though i was in both worlds at once. then, my companion - whose name i don't remember but whom i definitely have seen multiple times before - became aware of me as well. she seemed frightened of my presence, and i felt that fear as she slowly raised her right arm and pointed her index finger in my direction as if to say, i see you too. and then, the fog began to waft and swirl as i was moving, quickly, backwards - accelerating - towards my own reality, un-stretching, as would an elastic band released from tension... and my companion shrunk to a single point and vanished precisely as i was jerked awake, eyes open wide, shivering. ~ rainbow |
