The world is what we make it (another trite saying), and in that way is a reflection of humanity, and all of the evil that's in humanity - but also of the good. There are improvements that are happening that come out of but otherwise are independent of that, like improvement in medical care, improvement in the standard of living in poor countries, which help to reduce suffering, but if human nature never changes, then there will be this baseline that never improves.

Most people have no interest in improving themselves - and those that do seem to be those who are generally good people already, the worst of humanity seem to revel in their wickedness. So, I see no easy solution to this problem.
