I lost my thyroid years ago and I now have difficulty with temperatures. I get sick if I get too cold and sick if I get too hot.

Years ago, on my extended vacation, we had horrible summers. I would fill a polyethylene foot locker with slightly cool water and simply get in it. Eventually, my body temperature would drop and I'd fall asleep. Of course, someone looking in on me would think I was drowned, but I'd wake when called. I rarely got too hot back then.

Another way to keep cool is to pour cold water just over your head and the back of your neck. Your body loses almost a third of body heat through your scalp. By design. (In winter, wear a hat to bed to keep your feet warm!)

Losing an investment. Well, I know that certainly is painful. For me, I was going to a boating swap meet (ropes, anchors, block and tackle, etc.) and planned on buying an old $150 anchor for $100. I had two $50 bills in my wallet but I also had other money in there and didn't want the seller to see my extra money. I put the two $50's in my front pocket to suggest that was all I had. I walked towards the sale tent and reached in for the bills... nope, not there. I KNEW I put them in there. I looked around and saw them on the parking lot asphalt! I had apparently reached in for something and accidentally pulled out those two bills. Just as I headed to retrieve them, a woman and her young daughter spotted them and picked them up. (I was about 100 yards away.) How would I have been able to claim them as mine? I just stood there in pain and stared.

Isn't there an agency that can supply CPAP machines for people who need them? Salvation Army or some such?
