Writing for just yourself is called masturbation. Writing for others makes you an artist.

Don't "tell" a story; "show" it. Suggest things by writing around it. The tree isn't "green", the rich aroma of recently fallen pine needles struck one's nose.....

Paint a scene with words but don't be distracting. Get the main thought to your reader then move on.

Outline the basic line of thought in sharing the story. Be as general as you can then develop details as your outline grows. Leave out the fancy painting, just track the plot. Put in some surprises for the reader to discover.

Never, ever, ever hurry. Some stories take months to think up, some take lifetimes.
