"He's dead, Jim." McCoy to Captain Kirk.
No. Actually, it's "It's a dead body, Jim." Why? Well, death is the termination of life. No more existence. Your implication of "being better" means that death is something. It isn't. Upon your (or my) death, you (or me) do not exist. There is NO you (or me). That's not a "nothingness". My friend once told me that his father was buried in (that) cemetery. I replied, "No, he's not." We argued as I replied, "Your father does not exist." "He did. And his grave is in there." "It's not his grave. It's a grave with a body in it." "My father's body." "Your father does not exist. Therefore, he cannot own something." We went on like that until we got tired of it all. Death is like the temporary effect of anesthesia on your (or anyone's) consciousness. During an operation, the chemicals terminate (although it's just temporary) your thinking. You do not exist. Fortunately, after the effects of the chemicals wear off, your thinking picks up again and you continue to exist. In death, you don't continue. |
