When I was in 3rd or 4th or 5th grade, the Ms. ladies of our school decided to try to enlist us kids into their adult political agendae during classes that had nothing to do with politics. I will preface this with the truth, that I really liked Ms. Johnston and Ms. Straponhauer.

All kidding aside, they were genuinely kind to us kids. Personally, I felt at ease with them like never before, especially after dealing with with Mrs. Angry Armpit Hair from the year before, who seemed to always fail all the boys for no reason. ANYWHO...

Ms. Johnston was totally AWESOME! She gave all of us "ERA" pencil cases with rulers and pencil sharpeners, totally free. Did we agree that everyone should be completely equal? HELL YEAH we did! Why not?

At home, dad's eye rolls said it all, but I didn't care. Ms. Johnston was friendly, corrected my wrong math answers, and gave me free shit. You dare question Ms. Johnston? How DARE you.

Things got a bit more "iffy" for me later. After attending a party at the home of Ms.'s Johnston and Straponhauer, we were shown an environmental movie in class. I don't remember the message, but only the fact that a bunch of fur traders were clubbing incredibly cute little baby harp seals over their innocent noggins. I don't remember any other message contained therein, and I am sure the multitude of my red-eyed, utterly distraught and weeping LG classmates did either. Why would anyone kill such cute little baby seals? The bunny rabbits of the arctic world!!!

Where am I going with this? Who knows. I said it about religious right radicals in the past, and I'm fine with saying it again now. Don't enlist your kids into your adult political posturings, especially when they haven't had the chance to investigate all sides of the argument without pressure.

Oh, how your shiny objects come into play when you need them to follow your religion, your environmental cause, your economic model.
