I was in Japan in the early 80s. I wasn't aware of the phenomenon until it was time for me to go back to the states. I did notice men taking an interest in young girl magazines and such, but I didn't know it was a cultural norm. Even in Saturday morning cartoons, young girls were depicted as sexy. :-(
