People are just now getting around to considering the ramifications of our pursuit of AI. You are pointing generally in the direction of, what if the AI becomes... I mean... REALLY smart? Better Google searches? Better car diagnostics? Better doctor diagnoses and treatments? Well, that's the idea. But, unfortunately, what just probably will happen is that the AI WILL get good. Too good, in fact. I don't think it will get into "Terminator" stuff. I think AI will try its best to help us... right up to the point where we, with the help of AI, become more than we are. Artificial eyes, artificial hips, artificial hearts, artificial ears, artificial reflexes, and... where will we stop being human and start being machines? And, when will the machines stop being machines and start being "Beings"?

The AI stuff I began working on involved natural language processing. We have that now. Goodle will set your alarm for you if you just ask. If I ask for a translation of "I love you, little girl", I get "我爱你,小女孩。"

"How tall is the leader of China?"
(They just had their 70th anniversary last night. Beautiful Chinese little girls!)

Xi Jinping is a Chinese politician serving as General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, President of the People's Republic of China, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission.
Born: June 15, 1953 (age 66 years), Beijing, China
Height: 1.8 m

"Goodle, please convert that into feet and inches."
"180 cm is 5 feet and 10.8661 inches"

Presidential term: March 14, 2013 –
Education: Tsinghua University (1998–2002), Tsinghua University (1975–1979), Beijing 101 Middle School
Spouse: Peng Liyuan (m. 1987), Ke Lingling (m. 1979–1982)
Children: Xi Mingze

We all want that kind of AI. But, as you pointed out, we need to carefully consider the social consequences of the technologies that we, as a species are lured into developing without regard to the time required for us to adapt. George Orwell had NO idea what 1984 (or points beyond) is like. Anybody for a game of checkers? I will bet 100 million bucks you can't beat me. If you're good enough, the best you can do is a tie. (Yes, I'll cheat and use a checkers playing AI program.) Then, there's chess. And the Japanese game of GO.

And now, we have:
