The police must advise you that:

You have the right to remain silent;
Anything you do say can and may be used against you in a court of law;
You have the right to have an attorney present before and during the questioning; and
You have the right, if you cannot afford the services of an attorney, to have one appointed, at public expense and without cost to you, to represent you before and during the questioning.

You have the right to talk to a lawyer before deciding whether to talk to police,
If you decide to talk to the police, you have the right to consult with a lawyer before being interrogated,
And you have the right to answer police only through an attorney.

Most criminal attorneys who do pro bono work (work a case for free) usually do it because it appeals to their sense of duty to the country to correct a problem with the application of a law.

Never, ever, ever, NEVER talk to the police on your own. Even if you know you are innocent, shut up! Always remain silent. Do not answer ANY questions. Make sure you are actually being detained or arrested.

Hope this helps.
