The long arm of American law has been growing ever longer, as demonstrated by the many people who have faced significant prison sentences in the United States because of a measure passed by Congress in 2003 that gave federal officials much more power to prosecute people suspected of molesting children on foreign soil. Officials used their expanded authority to prosecute five American people in 2004. Investigations have been under way from Sri Lanka to Costa Rica and wherever American law has exerted its dominance over third world countries.
It is this feature of U.S. power that I was pointing to. In many countries, it is legal to do or have some things that, in the United States, are illegal. As of 2003, should the U.S. LEOs find out, they can and will come to the country you are legally in and arrest you for violating an American law. Just consider: in many countries, the U.S. government has an open and active FBI office. |
