The Feels On The Bus Go Round And Round

Posted by Eeyore on Monday, December 09 2019 at 00:44:06AM

So I'm in the big town on a Sunday evening, riding the public bus as occasionally happens. I'm already seated, with my earbuds in. Not connected to my smart i-phone or anything, just my modern day AM/FM Walkman. It's free, no monthly charge. Anywho... a "couple" comes aboard after me. He's about 15 or 16, she's about 10 or 11. Wuhhhh??? My curiosity hightens, and I secretly turn my volume down. They sit directly across from me, the girl being closest to me. She's a cutie, with long blond hair, petite, decent body, and a good enough face with slightly rosy cheeks. He's acting quite the gentleman, yet desperately trying to get her to converse back with him.

He talks out loud to her the entire trip. He's clearly in high school, and asking her about her own class schedule. He presumes she has 8 periods, and while not so talkative herself, she corrects him. No, she only has 6. He tries hard to recover from his self-conscious mistake as he psychologically punch,es himself in the head for being stupid, and I suddenly find myself routing for him, as Led Zep "All Of My Love" plays softly in my earbuds, literally. JUST ROLL WITH IT, DUDE! He's not tuned in to my psychic support. He's not being pushy or anything, but it is clear to me that he sincerely likes her quite a lot. From their unusually "proper" behavior, I start to wonder if they were just attending some sort of religious thing on a Sunday evening. Perhaps he is her designated chaperone or something. All sorts of possibilities roll around my head.

Throughout their time on the bus, two things were clear to me. He was very attracted to her, and she felt like she was in control of things in spite of her younger age. When they eventually got off the bus, I noticed she was carrying crayons and coloring paper. He even thanked the bus driver as they got off and called him "sir".

Dunno how to wrap up this post with a bow or anything. It was just an event observed that I knew should be shared. We're out there, everywhere. There's more of us than we tend to think.
