I'm not a terribly "reverent" believer, but religion is indeed one of the three things (along with sex and politics) that one should avoid discussing if one doesn't want to make enemies. Amazing how many enemies I've made while usually managing to avoid discussing two out of the above three.

Noah's Flood? Just the Hebrew version of the Atlantis myth, an early example of political science fiction. The Babylonian version in the Epic of Gilgamesh makes that obvious, with Utnapishtim (Noah) being later sought out as one with some biological secret of immortality.
