A fenderbender in a parking lot is depicted in the news media as a horrific scene of wreckage.

Consider in the movies, pretty accurate for real life, when the SWAT smashes open a door, tosses in a flash-bang, and breeches, why do they yell so repetitive and loudly, "POLICE"? Everyone not wearing hearing protection hears nothing but ringing in their ears. Don't you think that they are going to know it's the police?

In a police car chase, they come running up yelling, "Get down on the ground"... not once, but until you slowly figure out that you have to get down on the ground. Why do they YELL IT? The guy (or girl) knows what they are supposed to do as soon as it's said the first time, loudly or not.

They are trying to scare you with emotionalism.

Why is it that people can call for the killing of a child molester but replace that with a government official and it becomes terrorism?

If someone simply raises one solitary finger, why does everyone who sees it get excited?

There was a recent advertisement for a famous hamburger restaurant chain that had one fellow remark, "Dam, that's a good burger", which sent the viewing public into a frenzy over it? It's just a word: dam or damn. Dam, dam, dam. Say it 100 times within 60 seconds and it becomes nonsensical.

Why does $29.95 sound like a better deal than Thirty Dollars? Why do retail sales advertisements insist on adding, "Hurry, there's a limited supply and only on sale this week!"

Why do Catholic priests wear funny sheets and ribbons when they work? Why does the Pope have a pointy hat? What do all those hand gestures do? They are just movements of their hands.

Modern society has a rich repertoire of emotionalisms designed to control people by those society people who have managed to find their way into such power.
