Expert opinion is frequently wrong. Whole books have been written on the subject.

It is often the result of a kind of tunnel vision, in which experts in a field have focused so intently on their field that they are completely unaware of what is happening in other fields, even adjacent ones.

Thus they tend to miss a lot of relevant information, and a generalist is often better able to see the big picture.

And yes, a few psychoatrists are probably criminals, and some enjoy having a feeling of power over their clients. I don't think that is necessary for them to be disastrously wrong and harmful, however.
