This is a pencil sketch Ruskin did of Rosie in December, 1859

A human male's love for a human female has long been the subject of thousands of famous writers, painters, musicians, and other famous people. Most peoples' capacity to feel love deeply is very well known. It is said that Helen of Troy was so much loved by Prince Paris that he kidnapped her (or abducted her?) which started the Trojan war. The face that launched a thousand ships.

Ruskin felt this love intensely for 10 year old Rosie: he "could not bear being so far away from her".
