Few are aware that the stigma has misogynistic, racist, and classist roots.
Because God forbid girls have sufficient freedom to marry men (even (gasp!) those poor and/or white!), or that man/girl couples be treated more equally in law! The campaign to raise the AoC originated in the UK, not US. Hence attempts to associate it with alleged US racism are bound to fail. I wonder, however, what the author would have made of the British feminists attempts to export it abroad: Under the assumption that marriage is "misogynistic", would girls and men in India be better off having Butler et al dictate with whom, and when, they might form relationships? Based on how feminists have treated man/girl love (also compared to homosexuality, including man/boy love and woman/girl rape), we can reject the origin of anti-pedophilia in sexism (against women) and marriage. In short, the essay is fairly typical feminist drivel - unsubstansiated claims of misogyny, generalizations (woman to female etc), dubious legal claims, a selective blindess to the suffering of men (including white and poor) and girls (of any race) loving them. The Rind part is mildly interesting, but also already known. |
