The science lab at the posch university where I studied (I flunked out) had a near-zero resistance pendulum hanging from the roof in a vacuum. It was positioned so that it would knock over wooden blocks arranged in a circle, demonstrating ... Well I flunked physics, so I am not sure what it demonstrated. But earth isn't flat, I am coherent enough to know that.
