The status page is completely different software running in a completely different data center on completely different hosting than our normal provider.

Which leads me to think that it should even be at a different provider completely to cover all potential scenarios.

But, I am not super familiar with RSS feeds .... perhaps you could share a post with us on how they are useful and how to use them. Because, you're right, if what I think is the case with RSS feeds, this could be VERY useful.
