Regarding pleasantries in chat... During the 90s, people were very tight lipped about protocol. But this is 2020. I spout profanities at people and make inappropriate comments about their moms. Everything goes, and people realise that chat is casual, not to be taken seriously.

As long as you arent blatantly hurtful to anyone, you can come and go as you want, without french-kissing everyone.
