Doctor: Are you a smoker?

Me: I quit over 40 years ago.

Doctor: Then, as far as heart disease is concerned, you are still a smoker. Your risk level is the same. Once a smoker, always a smoker in calculating risk for heart disease.

Between you and the guy sitting next to you, if you both are smokers, one of you will die from it. Usually painfully. If just you are the heavy drinker, the chances are that it will be you.
