A better character that's as well known as Humbert, or as highly regarded as "Lolita" will take decades to come, if not centuries. Part of the reason why "Lolita" is as well-known and highly regarded as it is is because Humbert is something of an anti-hero for many reasons - then you have one of the last scenes where he finds Lolita as an older teenager/adult and she wants nothing to do with him except his money. Any book where the adult was not portrayed in a negative way would never be published, or it'd be buried.
