Perhaps the term childlover or paedophile is offensive to hetero muggles because it implies that those who are not childlovers have no love for children.

The fact that there does exist benevolent child psychologists who are not pedophiles, is proof that we are not the only ones who find the behaviour of children so fascinating. Kids constantly have eureka moments when they learn a new basic skill that we adults take for granted, like theory of mind, empathy, or learning how to use deception to avoid consequences or to manipulate people. These are stages of development we all went through but have no recollection of. In a way, the study of behaviour in children is a form of introspection and pursuit of understanding ourselves better.

It aired on BBC 4 from 2015 to 2019, but for those who missed it there are lots of snippets on Youtube worth watching. The series does a really good job of capturing those little eureka moments that anyone who work with kids witness often.
