It used to be said, that "a man was innocent until proven guilty." What they meant was a straight white man who could abuse people with impunity.
Anyone one else, women, immigrants, people of color, homosexuals, etc were considered guilty as subject to extrajudicial punishment (lynching).
We are just lynch fodder.
