Perhaps Hierophant's timeline is about correct - though it's hard to estimate as social change can happen very quickly or very slowly. In some cases official apologies have been issued more than three hundred years too late, but at the other end sometimes it has taken only fifty years.

But the key point is that if we dismantle the broken institutions and replace them with working ones of our own, it won't really matter whether we get an official apology at all.
