Why are Sappho's poems so good?
Posted by Plyushkin on 2024-August-11 20:48:10 EDT, SundayWhy were the lyrics of English songs so much better in the 1960s than now?
Because I understood only parts of them and could imagine the rest.
Why did I like Cleopatra's songs so much 14 years ago?
Because I did not understand the lyrics -- but this is only one reason. (By the way, I have not listened to them for aeons.)
Silence is one of the most important factors of art. If I lived 300 years more, I could reach the minimalist style of Japanese novels, but this life is too short to learn that skill -- I still have too many good words.
