I'm generally ai positive. So I'll let the blistering comments from the ai overlords article look at me angrily for that. But, at least I acknowledge where my biases may be.
As for the first article I have a feeling that people that use ai without checking or thinking critically are the same people that would do so with religion, political leaders, or other things. Some people just don't think critically. AI is nothing new on that front. So whether ai is telling them idiotic information or if it's their religious leaders, politicians, or bad boy date, it's not going to matter. As for the 91% accuracy rate, the question test used wasn't great. It read more like questions designed to try to trip up ai's rather than knowledge questions that people would actually use ai for. But, either way this is way better than the average human. I remember several years ago they tested out ai at drive troughs. All the headlines read in big and bold ai messed up almost 20% of the time on the order. How horrible that was. Most papers buried an important fact, some even left it out. The ai even at 20% misses was outperforming the average human in accuracy. If my drive through experience is any indication. 50% accuracy for humans might be generous. There's a reason they all show your order before you drive around. Gotta correct the human first. As for the AI overlords article. Felt like nothing but a hit piece. Extremely low on facts, very high on emotion. It stated things as self evident rather than laying facts for why he thought so. It also seems to ignore the fact that many people just run ai on their home computers. There are many, many models out that do that for free open source. There is no ai overlord except for the one that the writer has created for himself in his own head. This isn't to say that ai isn't worrying or doesn't deserve a massive amount of scrutiny. But, I prefer to see the issues presented as facts not emotional hyperbole. Is ai worse than humans? Well so far I don't see anything to show that there's any solid reason to think they are. |
