Do girls stutter? [article from August 2025]

Stuttering is strongly associated with males, and this tracks with my experience since I have only known men and boys who stutter. The ratio is about 4:1 in adults, but 1:1 in children since girls are more likely to recover.

From looking at her picture https://www.eurekalert.org/multimedia/1085162 it is hard to believe that this 10yo is a stutterer. She took part in a study that helped scientists discover a genetic factor responsible for causing the speech disorder.

I feel like a child lover is more likely to attract a stuttering little girl than the many other who misjudge her as someone with a mental disorder or form of retardation (to put it bluntly). Being misjudged / a minority is certainly something we have in common with them. Have you known any girls who stutter?
