(I think for a lot of girls, at 15 they aren't in the hebephile range any more -- they have an adult body type. Period. But they could be in the hebephile range too, depending.)
Yes, we have some differences which I'm happy to leave aside for now, but what I'm focusing on here is the "self-loathing" term. It seems like hysterical overkill for a genuine difference of opinion that doesn't bear on a MAP's self-concept. I'm reminded of "self-hating Jew" applied to Jews who aren't sufficiently Zionist for the tastes of the speaker. Or in some race where a black and white politician are facing off, some black who votes for the white guy is a "self-hating black man". Or I can imagine someone calling the significant number of white Americans who voted for Obama to be "self-hating white people". I say it's demeaning and unfair to use those terms in all those cases. But the closest analogy I can come up with easily pertains to controversies over whether older folks with some impairments in vision or intellectual function should be allowed to drive. There is a trade-off between the safety of others on the road and the self-determination and independence of the older person involved. If an older person was for stricter controls, some might call them self-hating, but I think that's insulting. They might just have different values about the relative merits of their self-determination and safety for others. |
