I happily consider myself a pedophile. Words do change meaning as their association is changed. Queer is now a fairly standard and mostly non-offensive word, but it at one time had offensive connotations. "Person of color" is also now a very accepted term, while "colored" used to be fairly offensive.

I'd love to see the word pedophile lose some of the negative connotation. I'd love to hear people say "so what if he's a pedophile?" Pedophile is defined by its use. While you probably don't want to dance around in the street saying you're a pedophile, when being open about your attractions, it's great to use the word and present a different definition of the word. Pedophile is only synonymous with "child abuser" because most pedophiles people hear of are those who are "child abusers" (not necessarily actual child abusers, but the story they hear depicts it as abuse). Give people a different type of person to associate with the word.
