"The point is even if you offend the woman 50% of the time, bore her 49% of the time and interest her 1% of the time, it could still be an adaptive edge."
And this is valid from an evolutionary angle precisely because humans are a non-social animal and therefore non-communicative. Females are loners who never see another female unless they have daughters. The failed or offensive mating strategy therefore has no impact on future attempts to mate. YEAH.... SURE..... Meanwhile out here in reality there's some pretty interesting info on how the effect of known previous rejections increase the likelihood of current ones. And on how even omitting this info is suspect. It seems that females, like males, communicate. And that proof of previous desirability increases desirability. And, of course we could also note if we cared that the "wolf-whistle" is almost always an expressions of desire aimed at an encounter which is certain to not lead to anything. The stereotypical construction worker whistles at the passing office worker on her way to lunch, but does not get up, share actual contact info &tc. Wolf-whistles are not a mating call, they signal frustrated desire. And even these louts employ an entirely different strategy when the possibility of an actual relationship is present. Dante ![]() |
