I'll add, besides the obvious youth lib. sentiments, that if such a law were made, children traveling with adults should not be exempt.
I don't think they are. Way back in the 1980s, when my parents traveled from Michigan to Tennessee with their karate class, they had to get a signed note for each of their minor students to take them across state lines. And in mid-90s when my mom and I came to Tennessee and brought my friend's 6-year-old daughter with us, we had to get a similar signed slip. Another time we brought a 14-year-old girl with us and the same thing applied. So I think those laws are already on the books and have been for some time. This proposed law is either redundant (as many laws dealing with laws involving minors are) or specifically focuses on taxi or other transport drivers taking minors across state lines and probably has some built-in mandatory bullshit. |
