That sounds like a New Years Eve to remember. Personaly I would say that there is a good chance that the man who was distracted by 'stringbean'. The reason i think this is that you never mentioned that he discouraged her in any way. Reading about the girls signing the songs bought a shiver down my spine. I remember when my friends 2 oldest girls were 12 and 10 (he has 5 girls BTW). They were both in their schools choir and were to participate ina choral festival. They kept on saying that they were going to do something special at the festival, but wouldn't tell anyone what it was going to be. I was lucky to be invited to see them perform at the festival. Their choir sang a few songs, and then the light dimmed. I could see some movement off to the side of the choir. Then an ultraviolet light (the type that makes white things glow) was turned on, and I could see about 16 pairs of hands in white gloves, glowing an eery blue. Then the music started and my friends daughters choir started to sing "Wind Beneath My Wings" as the signing choir signed to the song. It was absolutely beautiful. I can assure you that there were no dry eyes in the hall when they finished after singing and signing a few more songs. The way that the gloves showed up in the light was made even more dramatic with the fact that the signing choir was wearing black shirts.
