Lately there is the new EU law that basically gives the US online access to passenger information of flights and sea travel. Initially it is only supposed to be of passengers going to or passing through US territory. What was their lobbying? Well, they threatened to deny European airlines landing permission...
I'll bet that sooner or later they will get full access to inner-EU flights as well - and it will not only be the US customs or whatever agency in charge. Homeland Security? The really bad part is that no one here in the EU seems to care (at least the majority), even though it arguably conflicts with another EU law forbidding to pass stored information to third party. The British based www.statewatch.org has covered this (and numerous other topics). Other than that NO mainstream media that I have seen has had any word of it.
And sadly, when I mention this to friends etc, they don't seem to care and just shrug it off or think I'm just paranoid. Then the usual mantra comes out: "If you don't break the law, you have nothing to fear". Maybe people *are* "evil" in general, as flippy stated further above? It is among others, this attitude that helps dictatorious regimes to power... Why have "checks and balances" in a democracy, when no one cares?
