I would have probably engaged the mother in conversation, complimenting her on her daughter's intelligence and her ability to speak well. Every mother likes to hear these things and it would have given you an excuse to check the daughter out more. You may have been able to ask the daughter's age and where she goes to school. Who knows where the conversation would have lead.
