First, I am going to answer your question, then I will welcome you. I hope you don't mind the unusual order:
I would like to know, when do you as a child lover let go of a princess? How do you know when its over? Can it really be, she turned 12- and now you no longer love her?
Answering for me... I never truly let go. All my former crushes and LGFs I still keep in my mind, even those who have changed (body AND mind) totally out of my liking. The image of them in my mind is more powerful.
It's over when it's over. It's no different to an adult-adult relation. You know when it's over. Of course, adults like to lie to themselves about it. It is just likely that paeds can be the same. However, you know when it's over, and it normally has nothing to do with your expectations about it.
Yes and no. First of all, my AOA goes a bit up from that, to about 15. But it's not that simple. Yes, I lose physical attraction (sometimes just a little, sometimes the most of it is lost). Yes, I lose also emotional appeal (and again, sometimes a little, sometimes a lot). But so what?? Love sure needs a first sight, but at least in my case it can survive by being fed in the memories of those first sights. So in the end, if her personality survives the pressures to conform and retains what I loved of the little girl, then the emotional attachment survives - and I still love her. V, my ex-LGF, is in essence all that I loved as a little girl, just older (omg, she became 18 last week), and if she asked me today to marry her, I'd probably say yes. So, no, it's not like after 15 it's the end of the world.
I stop loving a girl only when I can no longer recognise what she has become. And that's happened to me too. As much as I love M, as much as I remember her constantly, as much as I replay the loveliest moments I spent with her, down to the words she said and the voice with which she said them, as much as I consider her (when she was 9) the sexiest creature to ever inhabit the Universe... I cannot recognise what she has become now; and I cannot love today's M (17 now) - that magick is gone, totally gone, I have to admit.
