My own experience for my whole damned life is that parents don't give a flying fuck about their child's happiness, they'll drag their kids away from me bawling and screaming when they were happy and laughing just moments before

And in my experience, with my extremely predator-wary mother, as long as she herself was friends with the man, she'd let me hang with him as much as I wanted. Well, no, actually... she'd let me hang with him on the basis that I didn't "get in his way". So basically, if a guy had wanted to, he could've befriended her pretty well in order to hang out with me... Aside from her friends, though, I can't think of her just letting me play with various guys who were kind to me.
