Fixing things....

further down, I responded to a post about a GM... in that response I mentioned helping to make a lg's world just a little brighter... here's one of those moments....

About 6 years ago, I was biking a trail in a city I used to reside in. As I was biking I saw off to one side of the trail a lil girl of perhaps 10 or 11 years old, honey blonde hair and beautiful, sparkling blue-green eyes, struggling to get her bike to "behave". She looked like an elvish princess! I was going rather fast and had a narrow section to navigate ahead, so I sped on...

But as I drew away, I realized that it was not a matter of her simply trying to get ON it and RIDE... she was crying, and it seemed there may have been something wrong with the bike itself, plus this happened to be a rather isolated part of the trail with no easy escape routes if something should go wrong for her personally... which worried me somewhat...

I slowed, found a turnaround point and headed back to find her standing over the bike and sobbing. As I pulled up she backed away and looked at me suspiciously. I stepped from my bike and stood with it between her and me, and asked what was wrong. She informed me that her bike was not working. I offered to help and she said she didn't care, she just wanted to go home and get her dad. Fair enough. On inspection of the bike I found that the spokes were terribly loose and that the chain was derailed.

I happen to be a bit of a bike nut and therefore had the proper tools to adjust the spokes to some semblance of order, if not correct tension. I also replaced the chain and gave it a lil oil, got her firmly seated and moving toward what I assumed was home. As she pulled away, I offered to follow and make sure she made it ok... but no, her parents would not like that. She smiled as she circled and thanked me for the help and was on her way...

That was a truly great day to be riding.
