There is certainly a difference between a true anti and a non-choice ped, and ultimately I see most non-contacters not as antis but as people struggling with their own issues of guilt and an unwillingness to challenge the status quo. With the exception of the blatantly moralist position (which is not in the realm of logic), I've never yet seen a non-contact argument that couldn't be refuted logically, and since most non-contacters are fairly intelligent people, I tend to assume that their position isn't based on logic but on their own moral judgment.

I'd like to suggest that there may be at least one more possibility. I consider myself a non-contacter, and while I'm well aware that my position isn't based on logic, I don't think it's based on guilt or moral judgement either.

Some members of GC have said repeatedly that the 'harm' in contact comes from society's attitude, not from any inherent harm or danger in the contact itself. I believe that that is true. BUT THAT DOESN'T LET ME OFF THE HOOK! Unless I can figure out a way to transfer by myself [by myself except, that is, for several parentless and guardianless young girls!] to another planet, the fact is that we do live in a particular culture and that in this culture, because of the attitude that society has regarding intergenerational sexual contact, harm *does* result from contact. We can tell ourselves till we're blue in the face that the harm is caused by the culture's reaction and not by the contact itself, but that doesn't alter the fact that the harm is done, and no amount of explaining 'why' or 'where the harm really came from' is going to alleviate the suffering that the harm causes. I have seen with my own eyes and heard with my own ears evidence of the extreme damage that can be created by means of illegal contact-- note I did NOT say that the contact itself created the damage, nor did I say that I was the perpetrator, which in fact I wasn't-- and as a result of that evidence I have taken the pledge: while society holds its present attitudes, I SHALL NOT TOUCH! Yes, I will work toward changing society, but *not* by touching as a means of provoking confrontations with society over its wrongness on this issue. Whether touching inherently does harm-- and I believe that it does not-- I may NOT risk it, given what the cultural reaction does to the 'victim.' This has nothing to do with moral judgement. It has everything to do with truly *loving* little girls, which is what I'm about, and which is what we all claim to be about.
